Shane Murphy Will Go to Augusta National
KJGA couldn’t be more proud of Shane Murphy who made it through the local, sub regional and regional qualifiers to punch his ticket to the Drive Chip & Putt National Championship at the Augusta National Golf Club to compete in the Boys 14-15 Division. Just getting there is a amazing and a memory that will last a lifetime. Contestants compete in 3 skills. In each skill points are awarded for 1st through 10th place.
- Driving. Each player hits 2 balls. To count the drive must finish in the 40 yard wide grid. Longest drive wins.
- Chipping. Each player hits 2 balls. The combined total distance from the hole from those 2 shots is the player’s distance. Lowest total distance wins.
- Putting. Held on the iconic 18th green at Augusta each player hits 2 putts to 2 different locations. The combined total distance from the hole from those 2 shots is the player’s distance. Lowest total distance wins.
Shane came out of the gate hot by winning the driving competition with a drive of 281.4 yards. He did well in both the chipping and putting skills and ended up finishing 5th overall just one point out of a tie for 3rd.
Shane has participated in the local Drive Chip & Putt qualifier for many years and has made it to the sub regional numerous times. This was his first time making it to the regional and the National Final. At 15 years old it was Shane’s last chance to make it to Augusta and make it he did. If you don’t try, if you give up trying… you’ll never make it. If you keep trying and keep working on your game maybe, just maybe you will be the next KJGA kid to make it to Augusta National for the National Finals the Sunday before the Masters!
Way to go Shane. We’re all very proud of what you accomplished.
